Policy Wording

Complete the company fields in the download and review the final wording before adoption. The policy includes company expectations as well as federal requirements.

1. Buckle up before moving

Drivers and authorized passengers must use the properly adjusted seat belt provided for their seating position whenever a company vehicle moves. This company rule applies to short trips, backing, and yard movements as well as public-road driving. Occupants must use a designated seat with a working restraint.

2. Use the restraint correctly

Wear the belt as designed by the vehicle manufacturer. Do not place a shoulder belt behind the back or under the arm, defeat a warning device, or use an unapproved modification. Adjust the seat and belt before moving. Air bags do not replace seat belts.

3. Report defects and stop unsafe use

Check the belt, buckle, retractor, and mounting for apparent damage or malfunction. Report a defect promptly to the safety or maintenance contact. Do not operate with an unsafe driver restraint or carry a passenger in a position with an unsafe restraint. Arrange correction before that position is used.

4. Company responsibilities

Supervisors must not direct or permit driving contrary to this policy. Drivers should stop in a safe place if an occupant unbuckles and resume only when occupants are properly restrained. Management will address concerns through established training and corrective-action procedures.

Receipt acknowledgment

I received this policy, understand the company’s seat belt expectations, and know how to report a restraint problem. I had an opportunity to ask questions.
