Give your business a way forward

Your rating affects more
than a report.

Addressing the findings behind your rating helps you put a stronger operation, and a stronger upgrade request, in place.

Freight opportunities

Some brokers and shippers restrict work with Conditional-rated carriers. An upgrade can help you address those concerns and pursue new opportunities.

Insurance conversations

Your safety rating affects how insurers view your operation. Documented corrective action gives you a clearer story to share with your insurance partners.

A stronger safety program

The work starts with correcting the underlying issues. We help you explain what changed, organize the evidence, and show how you will maintain those improvements.

From audit findings to an upgrade request

Know what happens next.

We guide your Corrective Action Plan and submission process while you put the corrective actions to work in your operation.

Start with your closeout letter.

To get started, all we need is your compliance review closeout letter, the document you receive at the conclusion of your DOT audit.

Get started with your request
  1. Review your findings

We review your compliance review closeout letter to understand the violations and safety management issues behind your Conditional rating.

  2. Document your corrective actions

We help identify the records, policies, training, and other evidence needed to show that your operation has addressed the findings.

  3. Build your custom plan

Sam personally writes your Corrective Action Plan around your operation, the audit findings, and the improvements you have made. You review it before submission.

  4. Submit and follow through

After your approval, we submit the request to FMCSA, stay in contact, and help address requests for additional information or revisions.

Questions about
your upgrade?

Here’s what to expect from the service and the review process.

What does the $725 service include?

The flat fee covers reviewing your audit findings, preparing a custom Corrective Action Plan, reviewing supporting documentation, submitting your approved request to FMCSA, and following up on the request. We also help address agency questions and needed revisions. For clients receiving our ongoing safety and compliance management services, there is no additional charge for the CAP or safety rating upgrade process.

How does 49 CFR 385.17 apply to my safety rating upgrade?

49 CFR 385.17 allows a motor carrier to request a safety rating change based on corrective actions. The request must explain the corrections made and provide evidence that the carrier meets the applicable safety standards. We prepare your Corrective Action Plan and upgrade request around those requirements.

What is a Corrective Action Plan?

A Corrective Action Plan, or CAP, explains the problems identified during your audit, the actions your company has taken to correct them, and the controls you will use to prevent them from happening again. Supporting records help demonstrate that the changes are in place.

A rating-change request must be supported by evidence of corrective action. Read the rating-change requirements in 49 CFR 385.17.

How long does the process take?

Preparing your plan and FMCSA reviewing your request are separate stages. We’ll discuss a preparation timeline after reviewing your compliance review closeout letter and discussing the corrective actions you have completed.

The agency’s review can take several months and depends on your case, supporting evidence, and any follow-up requests. FMCSA controls its review timeline; we stay in contact and keep you informed throughout the process.

Will my rating become Satisfactory or Not Rated?

The appropriate outcome depends on your investigation and rating history. We review your records and explain what change to request. Satisfactory and Not Rated are different statuses, and FMCSA makes the final determination.

Is an upgrade guaranteed?

FMCSA decides whether the evidence supports a rating change, so approval cannot be guaranteed. Our commitment is to prepare a plan tailored to your findings and continue helping with follow-up questions and revisions. Your company must implement and maintain the corrective actions described in the request.

Is this included for My Safety Manager clients?

Yes. If we provide your ongoing safety and compliance management services, your Corrective Action Plan and safety rating upgrade process are included at no additional charge. Carriers who aren’t ongoing MSM clients can use the standalone service for $725. If you also need ongoing compliance support, explore My Safety Manager.
