“The Dirty Dozen” Policies and Procedures

In our consulting practice and inside of the My Safety Manager community, we recommend these 12 basic (Dirty Dozen) policies and procedures that every fleet should develop.

Once developed, these should be communicated to all employees (not just drivers) on a regular basis and followed very closely. Be sure to have each employee sign off on receiving and understanding each one!

We would be happy to put any of these together for anyone. Since each company has different needs, each policy or procedure would be customized for each fleet.

Cargo Theft Risk Management Pan

Hazardous Materials Handling

Driver Hiring Guidelines Qualifications and Discipline procedures

Substance Abuse Policy (including a portion for the use of synthetic marijuana and prescription marijuana)

Truck Passenger Policy

Communications Policy (including the proper use of cell phones and the use of Social Media)

Crash Reporting Procedures (including spill procedures, salvage procedures and a re-load plan)

Fleet Maintenance Policies and Procedures

Driver Safety and Security Policies (including a seat belt policy, OSA screening Info and truck parking guidelines)

Cargo Handling Procedures (including guidelines for loading/unloading, material handling equipment use and cargo securement)

DOT Inspection Procedures (including guidelines for both on-site and remote inspections)

USDOT Compliance Policies and Anti-Driver Coercion Procedures (including HOS issues prior to coming on duty)
